On my 70 L-46,(350-350), I have run all 3. The holley 650 spreadbore dp performed excellent, easy to jet, cam switch. Down side for me is I can't use the original dropdown air cleaner, and the vacuum takeoff in the rear of the intake has to be repositioned. All due to the holley fuel bowls.

I have a brand spanking new edelbrock 1901. Idles great, performs like a dog. In the process of jetting it up in hopes of better response.

Now my original Q-jet blows the edelbrock away. Have to say its equal to the holley, AND I can fit everything with it. Needs a rebuild, and is takes a bit more to change out the rod/jet.

If you had to rebuild one either the Holley or Q-jet which one would you choose?

I would stick with the Q-jet as it fits the factory intake, fits under the hood and is about a 750CFM or so, making it bigger in terms of flow as compared to the other two. I am not sure why the Q-jet has such a bad rap with folks. It is a carb that seemed ahead of its time in my book. I wonder which one Lars would pick, as if I couldn't guess. Anyhow, there is my opinion.

the edlebrock you have just isn't a performance carb....it runs great, and idles nice and it would work great on my Hot Rod....it doesn't smell and it runs well on your car....its just not a performance Unit...

OEM Q-Jet, set up properly should be the best. Small primaries for economy, large secondaries combined with 750 cfm flow for performance.

Guess what I am running!

Some guys get their Jollies,
tuning double pumper Holleys,
but if I were you, Lester,
stick with a Rochester.

Now that I think a little harder
Some Q jets were made by Carter

I haven't had the holley on for a few years. I put the edelbrock on because this was supposed to be the replacement for my original Q-jet. I guess that means in fit, not performance.

Getting a little technical here. The edelbrock rod/jet are:
.036/.069. Cruise area=2.72.
WOT area =3.20
My 7040207 Q-jet:
.044/.076. Cruise area=3.01.
WOT area=4.00.
Quite a bit different in the primaries.

Putting a set of .044/.076 in the edelbrock was to rich. Found the best setup for the edelbrock to closely match the Q-jet is:
.048/.076. cruise area=2.72
WOT area=4.00

A bit less than the original in the cruise range, but right on the edelbrock cruise. Also right on the original WOT which is what I'm looking for.( Dame that Lars paper comes in handy!)

Problem here is the edelbrock .048 rod is a "48M", which is shorter and a different diameter than a staight"48". Ordered a "48" from GM.

Then the original is going to Lars for a rebuild. Guess that answers the question as to my choice.

A properly tuned Quadrajet is hard to beat - unfortunately, I can't keep them adjusted.

I tried a 650 Holley (it was a used unit my son had - not bad, but someone on this forum sugested the Edelbrock, so I bought one, and have kept it on the car. It works great for my use, and so far has been trouble free.

Good luck selecting a carb - they all have their pros and cons.

Holley style carb. Wether it be a demon or any other brand.

Eldebrock are ugly and hard to rebuild.

my old q-jet was to hard to adjust to get the car running good.
