It looks like my block was machined, the front pad on the passenger side has no data stamped. the casting number is 3963512, the date code is L14 9, it is a 71 LS5 4 Speed, built Sept 11, 1970. Is there somewhere to get this done, what info should be stamped be on the pad? All other casting infor is correct for heads, intake, axle,Trans etc. Any help would be appreciated.
Your block is the correct casting number, but was cast December 14th, 1969 which is a bit early for a car built Sept 11, 1970. It may or may not be the original one, but will certainly raise eyebrows. Anything past about 6 months difference in date is questionable.
You can have the pad restamped, but it will never fool anyone experienced in looking at them. Whoever overhauled your motor 'decked' the block which wiped out the engine ***'y plant stamp, the VIN derivative stamp and the original broaching machine marks. It's virtually impossible and extremely expensive to reproduce all these features, and you'll still be unable to fool an expert.
where did you get the date code? was it off the trim tag? the engine casting number matches the correct # for the 70-71. if you got the date code off the the trim tag then the engine is proabily correct. 454 right? that engine casting number was not used in 69. need to get the book corvette 68-82 restoration guide. very good information.
