i have a 78 sb and was wondering where i could find side pipes. it seems that they are all for the older model, and i don't want those 4 in 1 patriot pipes. any comments helpful or not i am looking forward to the help. thanks

Default side pipes

Hi,

They are listed for older modles because of the federal emissions laws that caused the use of cat-converters smog pumps, etc. Hooker list them 63 thru 74 I think. They will fit you 78 with some minor fitting( the same fitting has to be done for the years that it fits as well) I have seen them on several 78-82 modles. I have a 68 and a 1980, I have sidepipes on the 68 but I could just as easily put them on the 80. I am selling my pipes because I am installing a 427 BB in the 68. They are 3 year old Hooker super comp ceramic coated. If you look around this board these are the way to go, ceramic or stainless, but stainless is twice the price. I am putting another set of Hooker ceramic pipes on my vette, if you are interested pm me or email jfields830@bellsouth.net with your location so that I can get you a shipping quote, I will give you a good deal, I can also send pics. but hurry I have another guy that said that he wants them but hasnt sent any money and I havnt heard from him since wedensday. O'yea there aint nothing that sounds like hooker sidepipes

John

i was also wondering what the aprox. gain in hp. could be expected going from bone stock, to the side pipes both the normal, and the reverse flow muflers.

Go to "Jet-Hot" web site tell them what you got and they should be able to help.

Helped a friend at FT. Eustis's Auto Body Shop put some on his car(not a vette)over the Holidays and they looked good to me. Do a search in the Forum about Jet Hot, most seem to like them.

If I were you, I would sink mula into new heads(bump compression),LT1 Cam grind, and a ZZ4 HEI distributer and freshen everything up before going to headers...that could give you maybe 60-70 HP..headers..nil maybe 10-20 ??? Of course I'm talking L-82 base motor here..
