Default 78-82 dash question

I have a corvette america dash pad and a new speedo/tach lens for my 82.

I realize that these dashes or lens don't fit worth a crap or nowhere near original. But here is my question:

How bad of a gap am I to expect above the speedo/tach lens? Nothing seems to fit flush. Is the gap common to these cars?

You can see by the picture this is my problem area, I took some black paint and painted the back of the green housing so it didn't look as noticable.

Any ideas or feedback?

Something must be wrong. My '81 is nice and tight. See if you can find another car to compare it to and take some measurements. It's hard to see in your picture but it looks like the dash pad is riding to high.

My 79 fits tight also, so something is out of place for your fit..?

Thanks for the feedback, I still have my original dash behind the shed. I'm going to take a look at that tomorrow and see whats different. The "bumps" on the top of the guage housing are what's stopping everything from sitting flush, but that doesn't seem right.

The original dash has reliefs molded into it that the "bumps" fit into. The reliefs/groves also have the holes for the mounting screws.
I hope this helps.

Thanks, I have a feeling those reliefs that are molded into the replica dash I have aren't deep enough to let the housing sit flush.
