Corvette Instrument Service can fix it for a reasonable price. They are in Florida. They changed my 85mph to 140mph total cost including shipping $88.00. They also have a web page check it out.

the tip meter works like this.to reset to 0000 push up on the rubber **** and twist.this will start to align the numbers when you let go it is spring loaded ,it will disengage,, you have to push up again and twist again until the numbers lign up to 0000...now if its very hard to turn i make a tool that will go on the shaft adding leverage to the cable breaking loose surface rust that gets on these cables used from 1963 to 1977 corvettes.. the tool is 29.99 and 5.00 shippng anywhere in the us.. e mail me at carlclub@comcast.net if interested
Hey Rob,
Your inner worm gear is worn out. Thjis is not uncommon on these speedos. Quick and easy?......just buy a good used speedo and replace the whole unit.
Greg
would the trip reset cable getting stuck in any way cause the tripometer not to work? My speedo and odometer work fine, but the trip has never worked.
the trip meter has a gear that meshes when you push it up,, then it dropps outwhen you let go,it doesnt stay enguaged.. if when you push up the trip meter and it doesnt turn the numbers back its usually because the inner cable has rust built up and it siezes.. there is not a lot of leverage needed to reset a new trip meter so theres a rubber tip on it,, but as these cars age and sit a lot surface rust causes them not to work and that little rubber tip cant out fight the cable any more to turn it,, thats where my tool come in to play. put the trip meter repair tool on the shaft after taking off the rubber tip and tighten the set screw now you'll have more leverage to turn the inner cable, breaking that rust... e mail me if interested everyone who has used it got there;s working again,,,,,,,,,,,,,,carlclub@comcast.net
