Default winter storage

Should the engine be started at all while in storage? Car is covered in an unheated garage? Have battery tender connected and have fuel stablizer in tank?
Thanks

I never start my 81 after I put it in storage. I think you risk getting condensation if you don't let it run long enough. I fog the engine and just let it sit. I have been doing this method since I got the car in 1997 and have never had any problems upon start-up. It will smoke from the fogging when you start it but that only lasts for a few minutes.

Could you explain what "fog" the engine is?

Just watched a DIY show yesterday about storing a car over the winter months. Here's what they said. Put the can on four jack stands so the tires are off the ground. Top off all fluids, fill gas tank and add fuel stablizer, change the oil & filter take the battery out of the car & connect the tender. That's it not need to start the car until spring.

Oh if your storing a vert put the top up & either hard top or vert put the windows up but not all the way & close the doors but only on the first click not all the way & put a good cover on to protect the paint.

Pass it on. until spring

I do this every year on my outboard motor. As the motor is runing there is a fogging oil that you spray into the carb throats (I have 6 on my outboard). I use two cans and have them both going at the same time. What this does is coat the inside of the engine in a fine mist of oil so nothing rusts and stays lubricated. In the spring just fire it up. It will smoke pretty good for a few minutes then clear itself out.

Just follow what Gordonm said. I got my can of fogging spray from NAPA car parts. Just spray for a few seconds and then spray enough in the carb to stall the engine. Do not try to start again, just leave it like that till spring.

Default Winter storage fo my 78 in Vancouver Island Canada

I start my vette every 3 to 4 weeks let it run for about 20 min that brings the temp up to 190 drive it back and forth a few times in the drive way and then shut it down.I do have a pre oiler in my engne that loads the bottom and top up with oil before I ever start it.I have been doing this process with my vette for the last 6 years and have never had any problems.I have never put any thing in my fuel I just always make sure it has a full tank.
