Both companies are top notch and usually very quick service. Summit seams to be a little faster and better at telling me when things are going to be on back order. But over the years, I've been very pleased with both companies.
Shop around and find the best price on the net then get one of them to price match. I did this on Earl's exhaust and valve cover gaskets, when you call in give them the brand part#, price, and website address of where it is cheaper, I did this with Summit and they matched American Street Rod.
I do kow that Jeg's return policy is very liberal, I returned a $80 Edelbrock fuel pump I had used for about 3 months, did not like the way way the fuel pressure fluxuated, I returned it, and they received I got a credit quickly, no hassle. I do strongly encourage you to return via UPS or other carrier so the shipment will be tracked and signed for when they received. When I returned the fuel pump they had no record of receiving it, I gave them the UPS tracking # where their receiving dept. signed for it, Jeg's checked UPS tracking system to verify and then they issued the credit.
Doug Herbert sells Performance parts too, my experience wasn't very good with them.

I like Summit's web site better than Jeg's but Jeg's catalog better than Summit's catalog. Living in W. Pa, if I order by 10:30am I usually get overnight delivery from either.
I like to check with the local hot rod shops. Most of the time, I can buy the same things cheaper locally than ordering it. But I always check all sources.

I have always used Summit. For no particular reason though. I have never had a bad experience with them either. It is usually delivered pretty darn quickly to my door also, thats the part I like.

I've ordered from both with great service. Summit's shipments usually arrive even before they say it will and they always give me cool things like a hat ,decals, or something. Jeg's was good to work with as well. The one supplier I would like to try that I've heard does well is Doug Herbert. They're not too far from me -I'm in SC they're in NC. Their website in my opinion is too difficult to navigate though.
I've ordered from both, equally good service. I usually order based on availability. Prices are about the same.
Summit website is easier if you have a manufaccturers part number you can enter it in search and find it.
Jegs adds a prefix to manufacturers part numbers making it harder to search for items.
I used to order exclusively from Summit but they no longer carry Demon carbs. BIG MISTAKE!! Once I had to order from Jeggs, I kept going that way. They are both good but I like the fact that Jeggs automatically sends everything 2 day priority. You have to love them both!
I have purchased from both retailers but prefer Summit more. Placed an online order from Jegs for some tires, three days later a sales rep called me to let me know that they were on backorder. Hum... why didn't they let me know when I placed the order? Canceled order and purchased from Summit, been ordering from them ever since. Summit also has a SpeedCard (interest-free payment options) a great way to buy big ticket items.
