I searched the forum and didn't see the answer to my question. I have a 1978 Corvette and the reverse lights do not work. All other lights work just fine. NO THE BULBS AREN'T BURNT OUT AND THE FUSE IS FINE!

Anyone have any ideas what might cause this?
I had the same problem on my '77, and I think they are pretty similar in that respect, and this is what I found:
1) wires were cut under the hood to the switch on the transmission. Fixed them to no avail.
2) Switch that is mounted to the transmission was broken (hard to tell installed, as the pin that goes inside sheared off). Replaced that switch (which included the part of the wire that was cut) and reverse lights worked right from the get-go.
While there could be any number of places where a wiring problem occurs, in my case, the switch on the tranny was at fault -- it was all rusted up from an extended sit. Also, I have a 4spd manual.
I'm assuming your car is a four speed. If not, ignore this. Simple system, easy fix.
Two wire harness on the left hand side of the trans that connects to the back up light switch. One wire is bright green the other pink. Turn on the key and pierce these two wires to connect them. If the back up lights come on, the switch is faulty. If this does not turn them on follow the pink and green wire back up the trans tunnel and look for an open wire as the earlier post said.
Best,
Greg
