So, my kid moves down to Jacksonville Florida. She's got it in her head to move in with her sailor boyfriend, buy some furniture, get domesticated, etc. Turns out the sailor is a real boogerhead. She now wants to come to Colorado Springs, but she's broke. We can get her here (airfare) but her car being shipped is another story. I shipped a mazda a couple of years ago from Texas to New Jersey, and it cost me about $450. Now I'm getting quotes of $1100+ (?!?) Does anyone know of a reputable, local shipping company in Jacksonville that will hold a car until she can afford to ship it (about amonth or so) and then ship it for less than $500? Thanks...
Sorry for the double post - for some reason, my PC always wants to go to the performance group.
From Fl to Co for 500 bucks. Those days are long gone for transporters. Fuel and maintenance costs are eating these guys up. Diesel is more than gas here.
How about having her put the car in storage at one of the storage sites near her and you fly down and drive it back at a later, more convenient date?
When I was in college, I hooked up with a guy that drove cars across the country. He would give us $500.00 a nice car usually a Jag, Mercedes or some other exotic sports car and a destination. It was up to us to pay for gas, and find a way home all within the $500.00. It was a fun way to do few road trips, $500 bucks in your pocket, a nice car and an open road, but the money barley made it home. Sometimes there was another car to drive back, sometimes we had to fly. Of course, I'm going back to the early `80's but I think flights have actually gone down since then.
You might just start a thread asking if anyone of our forum members in that area has room for her to park it for awhile. We have lots of great folks here and someone probably has the extra room and would be happy to help.
Some cars may not be worth the cost of transport. Moved my daughter back to the Chicago area from her college in LA, sold the car there and bought another here.
Try Fed-Ex Custom Critical Transport....Google them and see what it costs right online. They were great and the cheapest for me. If I recall it was about 500 bucks from Chicago to New Jersey. might be worth a shot....This was last April with an open carrier
