Default Rebuild or not???

I am quickly finding out my vette needs many things replced So while I am spending money like a mad man I thought I would redo the motor as well, I am replacing the frame, lines, trailing arms, core support, radiator, and nicle dime stuff.

My motor only has 87k on it and it runs decent.

So fella's you opinion is:

Yes

No

Thanks for all you do this Buds for you!!!

"While You're At It" syndrome is working on you! Before long you're going to have a brand new C3 and a lot less ca$h.

Do a compression check first.
If it shows up good then just re gasket the engine especially if you have a few oil leaks here and there.

If it shows up bad.....well you know the deal. $$$

My thoughts are this, since I am going to great lenghts to make it right and I have been told that if your gonna go this far why not finish it right the first time.

I guess its peace of mind or whats left

More info would be helpful to me in making a recommendation. I see you are replacing the frame, T-arms, lines, and core support. I can only assume it's because of rust? If all that stuff is rusted out, be sure you know the condition of the birdcage. Bird cage rebuilding can get a lot more expensive then the other things mentioned above...

Default hold on

Unrestored original that runs good is worth more than one that is resored.

I do have rust and the frame needs done, At this point I dont know, I am having a guy who knows vettes look at it, If the bircage is bad, and I hope its not, but If it is I plan on making this a very long project. The person who owned the car before me beat the crap out of it, I do know that it has a new trans.

Thers alot I should have learned before I bought it, but I didn't know about a bird cage.

Default Just my 2 cents worth...

Considering all the other stuff you are doing it would seem a shame to put the old engine in and have to pull it again in about 10K and rebuild it anyhow.

if the engine is out anyway, then go for it!

if it has over 80k miles on it the timing chain is due anyway.

it won't cost that much to rebuild it, and you will know that you won't have to touch it down the road.

just DO IT!

Black 80...
If this engine has been run on Mobil 1 since new I would do a compression check and if it turned out good, detail it and reinstall it... if it hasn't been run on a synthetic... well you're in so deep now, just do it... you'll sleep better at night...

Good luck... GUSTO

Default Rebuild or not???

To my knowledge its never had any synthetic oil run through it. I called a friend of mine that works in a parts house and he said he could get me done for under $500. for rebuilt kit and that with everthing. I didn't think thats a bad price for that.

I would cut your losses and sell it as is, then look for one that's not rusted out. You could easily spend 20 grand on this car and that's with you doing most of the work.

That being said, rocker channels and windshield frame parts are available from most of our supporting vendors. Pillar posts and other parts you will need to fabricate or find a rust free donor car.
