Default Carpet Installation Need Help

Hi Guys

I need some help with removing and installing the new carpet around the back 3 storage compartments.
How do i get the old carpet off ?
It goes under the trim and the trim looks to be held on by injected plastic. So i drill it out and if i do what do i put in its place???
What do i do ?????????????

Thank You

MIke

Don't quite understand this question. It seems to me that you have to remove the stoage compartment frame. This is just a matter of unscrewing a lot of little screws that hold it on. You can then just lift it out. There may be a little interference with the carpet around the wheel arches. Actually, before you remove the frame, you might consider unscrewing all of the compartment doors. They are very heavy. If you try to remove the frame with the doors attached, they may cause the frame to flex and then crack. The frame is very fragile. I take the doors off before I remove my frames. I remove my frame much more than I really want too. Next, after 30 (?) years, the compartment frames can become very brittle. Even if you're very gentle, they can still break very easily just like glass. Happily, the compartment frames, etc, are readily available and made with the original factory tooling. I think Mid America now owns the tooling. (Previously DeWitt owned the tooling.) If you have the original frames, just buy the new exact repro replacements. They are not that expensive.

Hello,
I cant really determine what you are trying to do either. The doors on the comartment will come off at the hinges to the base piece. Then there is plastic moulding that goes around the outside, with screws that hold it into place. Once these screws are out the molding comes off and the carpet can be peeled from the particle/press board.

For the frame that sits inside the back of the car, these are held in place by screws around the perimeter of the frame. On my car several were rusty and had to be drilled out. Once the frame is out then the carpet should come out easy.

I began replacing my storage door frames this evening. From a question I posed earlier about much the same thing and what I've found out tonight it seems that the original equipment door frames (sometimes called "bezels") are held in place by a plastic pin that was made as a part of the original door. You will need to cut the pin off and then you can remove the frame.
The new door frames (bezels) then goes on with screws. I found a screw set at one of the dealers catalogs. Don't remember which one right now but can check or you can most likely get screws at the hardware store.

Edit: at least this is the way it is on my '74
