Default Here's a weird question....

I just bought 2 pairs of circa 1973-1986 New York license plates...one a FARM plate with a December 1976 sticker on it, the other set with no stickers...I plan on getting a vanity registration so the 2006 reg matches the number on the 1976 plate, I have seen this done on many cars in the local car shows...BUT, I have to remove the 12/76 sticker from the farm plate and attach it to the passanger vehicle plate, only to make that plate look more original on my 76 Vette....these stickers are designed to NOT BE REMOVABLE, and I mean permanently stuck...but there must be a way...
Before I attempt to remove it, maybe there is someone out there that has tried to do this...Goo Gone, heat, alcohol, soaking in water (doubtful)...gotta be a way...
I know...I'm a little just thought it would look rather

I have used a product called "Goof Off" which is like GooGone and also used WD-40 successfully in the past although the WD-40 works slower than the Goof Off and requires patience and a sharp razor blade to get under the sticker.

That's a good idea. Although they're not "official" plates, as long as the numbers/letters matched your "real" plate/registration, the cops couldn't do much except issue a "fix-it" ticket...assuming you were pulled over in the first place. Most "kid-cops" these days probably wouldn't know the diff...

HEAT will do it for sure. I live on the edge of the Mojave Desert and I took the original plates off my '70 on a hot day (110). I could peel the stickers off year by year all the way back to 1970. Try a blow dryer and peel nice and slow.
Good luck,
Greg

I used goof off on something that was painted once and it took the paint off. Test it on something first.

Years ago I worked a couple evenings a week on a loading dock. I noticed the truckers, on more than one occasion, holding that front plate("bingo"? I think they referred to them)with all the different state tags, over a cigarette lighter to remove the various tags to lend to other drivers. Heat seemed to work just fine, I don't think they even needed to reglue them, they restuck like new.

OK, guys, thanks...going the wd-40 route, but after a couple o' cups o' java, I thought, "why not scan it" and print the pic, cut and attach...it will have no legal reference, just a cosmetic year reference as the vehicle will be officially registered on a 2006 reg...of course, my printer went blinky recently and it's a poor print...just need to order an official ink cartridge...ink refills???
Thanks to all..

Heat is the best way to remove any type of vinyl/plastic stickers with a cleanup if necessary with one of the chemical treatments mentioned above. I owned a sign business and we always used a heat gun to soften up the adhesive on anything that was "stuck on" with adhesive.
