Default New owner needs help

My husband and I just bought our first Corvette and are having trouble figuring out how to open the trunk. Boy do we feel silly! It is a 1982 "hatchback" style. Can anyone tell us how it's done? Thanks!

If I remember correctly there's a pull lever behind the drivers seat to pop the rear hatch.......but only on an 82 Collector Edition.

Not sure about the 82 rear glass hatch but on the 87 the switch was located on the driver's door panel where the door latch is located.

Hi,
The only 82 that had an opening rear hatch was the Collector Edition. If your Vette is a Collector Edition, the rear hatch release is behind the drivers seat. A small handle (similar to a hood release handle) pokes out through a slit in the carpeting.
Good luck with your Vette,
Tom

For the rest of us from 79 - 82, we get to flip the top half of the seatback forward and reach back there.

Congrats on you new purchase and welcome!

Looked at an '82 for sale last Saturday. Owner popped the hood, started it up, and I saw something move and gray stuff flying everywhere under the hood. Walked around to the other side of the car and there it was. Large rat. Cut up real bad and bloody. Don't know if he took a spin around the fan blades or rode the A/C belt. I had read many stories about this sort of thing but never saw it until now.

I know this is not the place but you reminded me of the time a kitten got sucked-up into the air cleaner horn of my diesel pick-up. YUCK!!

my car pool lady came crying to my door 20 yrs ago for exactly the same reason.....there were cats that use to crawl up into her car to stay warm and one day she had lots of howling when she started the car and made me look to see what happened...there was lots of fur but no blood...that cat was down to 8 lives after that one

That ain't rust, that's all the red paint that's still on them after years and years of hard use.

BTW, don't lend those out to Ollie

When I bought my 79 I took it in to have the rear glass tinted. The guy in one shop gave me a ridiculously low estimate, about a third of what I got other places, without looking at the car. I am POSITIVE he thought the glass opened up I dropped it off on the spot and took off running.

The poor kid who did the job is probably still having nightmares and neck pain 3 years later.

Actually you are wrong. The 1982 Collector's edition has a hatchback glass the first of the vettes. But thanks for the cartoons.
