I'm talking to a guy offering a Custom Autosound radio pulled from a 68. I have a 77. I noticed in the Ecklers and Corvette Central catalogs that there are two different model #s for 68-76 and 77-82. Why the difference? Is there some dimensional issue with the posts or face that cause it not to fit? Or is it electrical harness related? The posts on my old radio that DOES NOT work are 2x4" on the face and just a hair under 6" on the center to center spacing of the **** posts.
I don't know if the earlier one will fit, but I have one that came out of my 78 vette. I hate custom auto sound radios. I had one in my 66 mustang, the sound is terrible and the radios are outdated. Only good thing is that you don't have to cut your dash. Usually Kenwood radios are available without cutting as well. My buddy has one of those and it sounds much better than that CAS radio. I decided that for the price of a new console insert, I'd just cut it and put in the radio I want. I have a nice Pioneer setup that takes mp3 disks. Shoot I can fit about 275 songs on one cd, cuts down on the CD clutter in the car. If your really dead set on a custom auto sound unit, PM me.
