Default Exhaust Question 76-80 specific I think

Hey All,

I'm trying to put an 80 style exhaust on my 82 since I switched out to Ram Horn manifolds. I got a new front pipe, catylic converter, rear Y, and direct fit 2.5" magnaflow mufflers from Corvette Central. All based on the 1980 exhaust. No smog.

Question # 1 - is it possible to put the catylic converter in backwards? There were no markings telling me what direction to install it. I didn't know if the angles on the output pipes were bent were slightly different and could affect the end of the mounting where the mufflers went. They look symmetrical to me and could go either direction but I could be wrong.

Here's a pic of the catylic converter I'm using

Problem I'm having is the magnaflows aren't lining up and mounting the same. The passenger side muffler is sitting closer to the quarter panel, higher and at a sharper upward angle than the driver’s side. The driver’s side looks ideal.

I also have the car on jack stands I didn't know if the spring not having any load on it could be causing the exhaust not to sit right.

I'll take a picture here in a little bit, maybe someone could see what’s wrong here.

Any advice or input and underside pictures would be a big help -

Thanks!

no arrows??? isn't there a heat shield on the top portion? or perhaps a drain hole 1/8" on the bottom

Here's what the "underside" of the cat looks like. It just has stamping for the two different part numbers for smog / no smog. The other side looks the same. No direction key or extra sheilds.

Distance from passenger side....it's about 4-5 inches from the panel and sits inside a little bit. The other side is about 2 inches from the panels and sits about 1 inch below that side.

Drivers side mounting, notice the sharp upward angle of the muffler and the direction / position the bracket is mounted. I needed it that way to try and pull the muffler into the panel the best I could.

Passenger side, again notice the postion of the muffler, it's straight and level. Look at how the bracket is mounted and it's position.

Does anyone have ANY pictures of the underside of thier car with the 76-81 exhaust?

I like to get a feel about what it should look like, maybe something is wrong with my install or parts.

Please post some good underside shots from the cat - back
