That's the key right there, granted there have been so many times when I am driving my beater and stop at a light and some hottie is next to me and there I am in the Bronco, when if I were in the vette...........
i drive my dad's 92 s-10 for our lousy michigan winters. It squeals like crazy and has the original shock absorbers that give me that nice floaty feeling. My wife HATES it. It is nearly free, since I just pay the insurance for the winter months.
Just a '96 grand caravan. It's currently suffering from the dreaded strut tower rot. I 'fixed' it with a piece of 1/4" Satinless plate, just shovedin there. I spose ill have to do some welding soon though :ack
My other beater is an '82 Yamaha Virago, paid $1200 for it in '92, still going

No, it works out better that you were in the Bronco. If you were in the Vette, you could end up with a girlfriend or wife and let me tell you, you'll wish you were making a car payment rather than handing over your entire paycheck. So you're actually better off with the Bronco scaring the womens away.
I drive an 84 toyota 2wd truck. Its yellow and it got the nickname "butter cup" while i was in high school. Kind of ironic since im a 6'4'' 260 pound lineman haha. Anyway its got 185K miles and doesnt even smoke. These engines have been known to pass the 300k mark. So thats what Im going for !
I had an '83 GMC Suburban for a beater. It was a New York truck suffering rot. Paid $200 for it, and drove it for 2 years before the transmission blew. I put the engine in an '84 Chevy c-3500, and drove it for 2 more years. I sold the dually for $700.

Won't work on your bronco, but when I was in HS driving my 68 Chevy stepside pickup, the fuel guage sending unit went out. The gas tank in these old trucks was right behind the seat, and there were no baffles or any obstructions, so my fix?? A 2 foot length of kite string tied to a hex nut. Drop the nut in the gas tank while holding the other end of the string, pull it out fast and see how high the string is "wet" with gasoline. Once you get to have about an inch or two of wetness, you'd better find a gas station. 2 years of this and I finally forked out the 20 or so bucks for a new sending unit!
Sold that truck to pay for more than half of my 76 vette. Now my "beaters" aren't that beat. A 2000 Ford Ranger 4x4 and a 2002 Pontiac SSEi - guess they are more of DD's than Beaters.
