If any of you have used these for you rubber bumper Vettes can you tell me how satisfied you are with them? The info sounds good on them and they have to be better than the cheap fiberglass replacements. I'd just like a little owner feedback before I purchase them. (fit, finish & feel)
Also, if you are happy with the Tru Flex Bumpers who has the best price for them?
I picked up another Corvette today, '75 4 speed convert. Nice car, needs a little resto work but good and solid Southern California car. Bumpers are both cracked and I want to replace them.
Thanks again,
Greg
i used them for front and rear. they do look better but had to be fitted. neither really fir that great, but im not 100% sure it wasnt the car that was little out. go slow and think 2 steps ahead and you should be fine.
One issue i did have is that the rear bumper isnt fitted with, nor provisions for the tail lamp hold offs. takes little creative thinking to make the tail lights work correctly
I had the Ecklers "Flex Fit" rear bumper put on my '80. A good friend of mine's shop did the work. He said the fitment was a PITA but the results were excellent. It's definitely stiffer than the original urethane but it flexes alot more than the body glass. I think it was a good compromise and I'm very pleased with how it turned out.
I put one on the front of my 78 and except for being surprised that it didn't bolt right on it was great. I cussed CA for months until I found out that none of them bolt right on, they all require some sanding or grinding.
Thanks guys,
That's just the info I'm looking for. How did your pricing compare?
Greg
...four years ago I called "Toledo Pro FiberGlass"(makers of TrueFlex)and was able to get "seconds". These are ones that may be slightly gouged or scuffed that they cannot sell to MidAmerica, Corvette Central, Zip, etc.
I got BOTH the front & rear for my '75 for $322(shipping including).
...bumpers needed about 6hrs of sanding & featherfilling before I could have them painted. Very worth the $322 for both NOT EACH.
I am in the process of putting a truflex front bumper on my 77 I bought it from willcox on e-bay for $275 and it is made by Toledo fiberglass. The bumper appears to be quality. The directions told me to remove the front cushion [honeycomb] and clamp the new cover into place and mark the spots for the holes to be drilled. It is easy to install that way but my problem is somewhere in its like my car was hit and I have to do some grinding and dressing but it tells you that in the instructions. I think I will be happy with the cover. Just my .02cents worth
I just finished installing the rear on my 74, I will have to fill in some to get them paint ready. The front fit much better for me than the rear. I am pretty sure I am going to fill the entire seam aswell.
I used the stainless connectors vs the old style, they also were easy to use. Everywhere I priced Truflex was very simular, if you can get them for $275 go for it...
