i would like to replace the stock steering wheel in my '73 with something that has a smaller overall diameter and also a fatter grip diameter. the car interior is black and the steering column is T&T. i'd prefer not have to do anything major to the steering column to get the new steering wheel in there. i'd be very interested in recommendations, experiences and/or pictures. as always, thanks in advance.
I'm interested in changing mine as well. It's in great shape, but I want the smaller diameter, fatter wheel. I was going to purchase one of those $100 wheels that most of the vette parts suppliers offers, but I've heard they are flimsy.
just wanted to say thanks for all the awesome input you guys have given to me in regards to the steering wheel replacement. here is a pic of the steering wheel i chose and installed. it is the lecarra 14" leather wheel with chrome spokes. it feels great with the fat grip and leather. i had absolutely no installation problems with the T&T. removed the horn cap, removed three screws from cap mount assembly, removed two screws from tele control screw, removed tele tension screw and removed 6 screws holding in the steering wheel. put everything back in reverse order and the horn worked first time.
just a note, i originally tried the $99 version from ecklers, but the grip felt too spongy to me.
now i'll continue with the rest of the interior rebuild. thanks again for all the help.
