I just put some new TT II's and Firehawk Indy 500's on the vert and am trying to decide to store or sell the original stuff. I have the original 15 X 7 ralleys with rings and caps. The tires are absolutely new F70 redlines (still have the nubs on the treads!). If I do decide to store, I was thinking I needed to de-mount the tires, wipe the rims down with some oil to seal them well, and bag the wheels and tires separately in a dark plastic bag. I even thought about finding some of those moisture absorbing dessicant bags to put in each bag as I seal it.
One of my few options for safe keeping is in the attic and it does get a bit warm up there. Otherwise, I'll have to find someplace for them in the basement......OR, I could just sell the whole mess, buy some more neat crap for the vette and be done with it.
Anyway, I know what I'd do if I sell it all, but am I on the right track for storage procedures? Thanks,
If thet are the orginial rims with the 68 date code I would keep them.
They were made only one year. If you are not going to be running these tires for a long time sell the tires before they dry rot. If you store the rims in the attic they should be fine.

That's a great point. I don't forsee ever using those tires. Just not good for anything but show on a correct vehicle and mine is anything but correct. My wife wants a '60 she saw in Bowling Green at the place beside the museum, but it's not correct either. May as well turn them loose for someone who can use them.
I'll hold onto the rims in case I ever decide to go back to the stock look.....rallys do look fine on a C3. I may have to find a pair of 15 X 8's to go along with the 15 X 7's since it's tough to get some decent sized rear meats onto a 7 inch rim.

I would store the rims and sell the red lines. The tires will dry rot on you. I have a friend w/a 66 coupe that may be interested in them but his are 215/70/15 yours maybe to big. what size would F70 relate to as in 225/75/15 ??

I went to Tire Rack and looked up the size they have listed as original size for a '68 vette and it came up as a 205/75/15. Since most places don't have any F70's then the recommended 205 must be the right ones. So, if he has 215's right now, then these may actually be smaller. Anybody else got a way to convert an F70-15 into a current size?
If your friend is interested in these, let me know. I'll poke around and see if I can find out how much they are worth. I know various parts houses have them available so I'll obviously discount them from retail.

I looked at the Coker tire web site and they are selling them for $616 for a set of four plus shipping and they're about as low as you can by them. Ecklers is $640. I figure I'll sell mine for $400 plus actual shipping. I'll have to pay to have them taken off the rims so I'm not going to de-mount them until someone is ready to take them off my hands. Send me a PM if your friend is interested.
