yes, the reason I hestitate going anything over my $5500 offer is any "surprises" I may come across (and you know there will be SOMETHING found as a surprise).
At least I know the frame is very solid, the interior is in good shape, and the tires and brakes are brand new. the tires and brakes were replaced than the car brought home and parked and it's been sitting for a solid year since untouched. During that same service work, the Corvette shop actually pulled the motor and replaced a bunch of dried out seals and gaskets because it had sat so long previous to it sitting for the last year.
Better hear it run...if any big surprises are there, thats when you will know...warm it up good..then check temp/oil pressure...check for leaks...
oil pressure at 2000 RPM should be at least 40...
i know what you are saying........but I'd hesitate putting a bettery in it (the battery was pulled out) and trying to start it in the guys driveway after it sitting a year. Wouldn't I be better off getting it flatbedded home and changing fluids, etc before attempting to start it?

Either way...gas not that old...and all you would need to do is make sure oil level was ok before starting...mine cranked off fine after two years sitting...but check rubber fuel lines off fuel pump...
Good luck with it...sounds like you are bringing it home...
don't know yet, still have to wait to see if he accepts my offer. it's been a week so if he calls me that he accepts it than i'll bring her home. If not, than I guess he prefers to wait and hang on to it hoping to get more money.
I believe at $6K (their low asking price) should have gotten the deal done. I believe that would be a great deal for you. The car is not in that bad of shape (per the pictures), and with that low of mileage, how could you go wrong. You may have lost it with not coming to the $6K right off, they may be shopping around for pricing. Hope it works out for you, good luck. Keep us posted.
Hi Boomer's.
He's been trying to sell the car for 6 months. They started it with an ad in the paper at $15K and than wondered why they got no takers after some people came by to see the car!
I see you are in New Holland. When I was younger and I was growing up on a farm in NJ I use to come out to New Holland all the time for the livestock auction.
I still love coming out to Lancaster County - very pretty country out there.

Easily worth $6K and more. If the corvette shop went to the extent of pulling the engine I would not be too worried about the mechanicals. Cosmetically it's going to cost you (paint) but in the end you'll have a very low mileage L82 air vette.....if you don't want to raise your price let us know....I'm sure someone on this board would like a chance at it.
I LOVE your car! that is one of my dream cars I'd love to see in my garage next to my '65. That EXACT car.......a Steel Cities Gray/black interior chrome bumper 'vert! If your car has A/C I'll drool even more than I already am.
I think Steel Cities Gray is the prettiest color they ever offered on a C3 and I want one BAD.
well guys, the owner just called and accepted the price of $5500 that we discussed last week.
It will be about two weeks until I can get the car though. He bought it a number of years ago from his brother-in-law and paid his BIL but they never transferred the title and it's still in the BIL's name and the car is still tagged from IL although it's been in PA all this time so he is sending the tiltle back to the BIL to sign over to me and when the title gets back I'll go pay him and pick up the car.
looks like I'm about to become the 3rd documented owner of a 9489 mile '78.
I guess that means i'll be visting this C3 section more often
good job you may not make any money but its hard to imagine you are going to lose any....
and at least a 50-50 chance or better I may decide to keep it once I'm done fixxing it up...........after all, it is a very, very ,ow milage L82 with all documentation
Congrats on you new aquisition. Welcome to the C3 world.
I think you got a great deal, get her running and enjoy with that low mileage. I see you enjoyed the Amish area in your youth, it would be a great place to take her for a cruise sometime soon. Good luck Barry, look forward to hearing from you.

thanks
yep, it was cows in my youth with my father and grandfather. Than much later on for a number of years until very recently I was in and out of Lancaster county a lot for business as PA was one of 7 states as my sales rep territory so I was in LC about every 2-3 months or so.
I think The last time I passed thru was Aug though at about 4am in the morning and stopped at one of the diners on RT 30 on my way to the Carlisle show. Lot's of truckers there at 4am and it was safe to say that my car was the only corvette, let alone the only '65 C2, at the diner that early in the morning!
