I have a very basic concern: that is not a 1979. Makes you wonder what the title says. (BTW, the last two months of the 1979 production run the Corvette did receive an 85mph speedo.)

The VIN makes it a 79:
1Z8789S417340
production sequence 17340 is early production, so it should have the higher speedo.
auctions states "front and rear bumpers from 80-82"
more like the whole front clip. Make you wonder what the real story is though...
Don't walk away from this one,...run! Wrong bumpers, rust seen, host of things that send up a red flag. By the time you buy it then find out what is really wrong with it and start rebuilding it you can find a nice earlier vette for probably less and will hold value better.
Do you have any club in your area? I'd look to see if they had any leads on cars. If you're not sure what to look for, ask a lot of questions and find a local guy that does to help you. There's a lot of junk out there that people think are gold.
Good luck,
Gary
My bad for not reading the description more carefully! But why were both front and rear clips replaced? That leads me to a good look at the frame (collision damage and/or rust) which is conveniently not shown.
On the other hand, if the frame is good, that would be a nice summer car for $3,000-3,500 if it can be safety checked. Drive it for a couple of years and gave fun.
thanks. you guys have been a TON of help.
i've been reading on this site for a while, doing some research on line, reading whatever i can about c3's, and getting ideas of what certain years should sell for.
the speedo and the lack of the crossed flags on the fender gave me a good hint something was wrong, although somebody mentioned that the last 2 months of 79 had the 85 mph speedo.
i just 'discovered' a dealer about 20 minutes away that deals in old cars. i'll post some pics of them, although they are a little out of my price range, just to see what you guys think.
i know dealing with a novice on things your experts at can be a little tedious, but i appreciate the heck out of it.
Whatever damages that car incurred in the past it is still a bargain at $3,500 if the frame is straight. That birdcage rust at the base of the windshield can be sanded off and repainted. If it is straight in a mechanical sense and passes a safety check I would go for it. You wanted a bargain?? This is one. Most of the interior components are pretty clean albeit faded. But interior dye is cheap. Drive it for a couple of years and part it out at the same price. Just my opinion.
Designer Imagines A Corvette That Looks More Like a Corvette Than the Corvette
