Got Water?
I thought I was the only one who's Vette leaked so bad in the rain. Now I don't feel alone. I rarely drive in the rain, infact probably only twice since I've had my '70 I did get caught in just a couple downpours though, and I thought I was under a waterfall.....including water coming down onto my feet.
one night, I was running late for a date and I had the vette. hit a big puddle and decided to hit the touchless car wash
I thought I was in the titanic
Mine leaks when it is sitting still in the rain and in the "Touchless" carwash.
I was thinking more like "Poseidon Adventure" with all the screaming and dashing about to plug the holes.
BTDT!!! came home from a show one time in a monsoon... think i would have been drier if i left the windows down!!!
I still got you beat. Summer of 04, I went on a Hooters run, GORGEOUS day out, so I left my t-tops at home. I'm there for all of 20 minutes and more importantly halfway done with my Sam Adams. All of a sudden a waitress comes running up to my table "whos vette? you better put your tops on cuz I just heard thunder"
I dont know what would have been the smarter thing to do, drive to a gas station and wait till it blows over, or race home to get the tops.
I chose the latter, as soon as I got in the car, it was a cloudburst all the way home to my house
I have not driven it in the rain yet but whenever I wash it (was expecting it to leak) it is dry inside. I even tried with concentrating the water spray at the weather stripping and no leak - yet. We will see when that inevitable day comes and I am in the rain and the water is wind driven
my t-tops leak leak leak and it sucks. I did get a car cover and while it's on they don't leak go figure!! I hope one day to have that problem solved. I tried new w/s but it didn't do anything. I am with you Jughead!!! Never ever ever drive when they are calling for the slightest chance of rain!
Only leak I had was in Bowling Green three years ago..had left footwell plugs out,and carpet was soaked after driving 100 miles down Hwy 68 in a rain storm...wife's purse was soaked too...
When we got our '76 it looked like someone had tried to make new weatherstrip with silicone. All the way around the windshield and t-top bar. Lots of fun getting that mess cleaned up. We get a slight drip right from the center in a rain.

mine only leaks when its raining......and especially around the scuttle area...next time i have the dash aaprat i'm going to use the expandable foam sealant that stays flexible in every nook and cranny i can find
My 74 coupe leaked. I am pretty sure it was a birdcage issue. There wasn't really a problem while driving, but stop at a light and the puddles started to form.
no side windows (Will do Lexan later) or wipers (Have the rebuilt and modded wiper motor ready to go), just let the water go throught the holes in the floor
I use the standard racer raincoat... A couple of 50 gallon trash bags in the duffle bag behind the seats
ya mines got quite a few leaks. i think ive pretty much stopped all the leaks in the front half of the car though.
theres 2 that i know of left though.
i some how lost a screw that goes into the convertable top clamps, so now ive only got 2 of the 3. every time i look in the car now, i can see droplets all over the roof of my hard top.
the worst one though is the rear vents. im not sure if those rear vents are supposed to be closed when the cars not running. every time it rains water pours into the rear deck vents, in into the car through the open astro vents, and completly soaks whats left of my carpet back there.
If you out on GM weather strips for the T-Tops and the pillar post, adjust the tops and window, you will never have a leak.
I did mine a year or so ago, and have not had a single leak, in heavy rain.
The pitfall - it cost me nearly 500 bucks to get the 4 pieces of weatherstrip..
Bill
PS: I called Proteam about selling the car - I should hear from them in the next day or so.
Looks like I might have one of the better ones. Mine leaks a little around the t-top passenger side at the corner of the windshield. Only in a heavy downpour. The weatherstripping is a little worn there so it dosen't seal well.
