I have a blown speaker on my right side dash. This car has a aftermarket dash cover. I couldn't seem to get to the speaker through the glove box. I'm told I will have to pull the dash. Is that true. Also would like to know if people have had success mounting speaker in the door panels or bottom kick area. Would that be an option for me?
The dash speakers are normally removed by pulling them UP! That aftermarket dash cover puts a kink in advice most folks can give you. What you might have to do is pull the dash cover so you can get at the original dash. Then it's just remove the grills (they pop out) and a few screws later you can remove the speaker.
I put a pair of Kicker KS46 4x6's in back in the spring, no problems with depth.
I tool my 4x6's out of my factory dash with it still in the car. But like everything else Vette related, it was a bizatch and much cursing was heard when I did it. I don't know how the aftermarket dash cover will affect you. The screws closest to the corners, next to the windshield are the tough animals to get at. I did it with a universal joint on my ratchet and it still took more time then it needed to. Having a child with small hands, lurking about for this project might not be a bad idea.
