Default C3 tires

This has been discussed but I can't find the thread. 73 vette came with 225 70R15 tires but I understand that a lot of C3s run 255 60R15. Has anyone had a problem with the wider tires (255 60R15) rubbing the wheel wells? Thanks.

255 may rub up front. Seems like a 50/50 chance they will rub at full lock.

Go with 245 and you should have no issues up front. In the rear you can go to a 275 with no issues.

Agree about hit/miss....I first switched to 255-60-15's years ago on 78...because I had lowered front end by 1" or so,.....we chauked front wheel wells and drove vette to check clearance...just had to trim lip on wheel well one side..now run 245's all around on 78 and run 245's up front/255 on rear on 69...

If I'm not mistaken, 255/60 R15 was the standard size for the aluminum rims weren't they? So they were at least offered what, 77 & up? The aluminum rims were wider than the rallye wheels, hence the wider sized tire.

Of course, I could be blowing smoke out of my *** too. I just know that 255/60s are what was on my 81 when I got it.

I have 245/60 on the front and 255/60 on the rear. I have had the front drivers tire rub a couple of times when backing uphill and turning at the same time. As has been mentioned my car body, along with some others on the forum does not sit centered on the frame. My drivers tire sits about 1 inch farther out than the pass. side. So if I had 255/60 on the front I'm bettin' I would rub more often just because of the offset. Might want to look at yours before doing anything.

When I bought my 78 in 1979,it had 225-70-15 tires on the aluminum wheels. The 255-60-15's were an option tire that year I think...

On later C-3's, ('78 up) 255's were offered as an option. The factory trimmed the front fenders as necessary...the edge at the side rocker and the front lower lip. Both rims, alloy and rallye, were 8 inch width.
