Default What Is It?

I've got a 72 T-Top 350 with Automatic, about 80,000 orginal miles and looking under the hood I saw something that I've never seen on a vette before and can't find it in any books. It appears to be a stainless steel plate that is mounted between the carb and the manifold. It has the firing order stamped on it and a part number, Anybody know what it's for, or what it is?

Carb spacer. It is supposed to give a little more horsepower and better gas milage. It does give better gas milage my dad tested one out.

I've seen those before and they are thick, like an 1" or more, this is very thin, less than the gasket and wider than the carb itself.

I made my own heat shield/spacer, mostly for the heat factor. Did not notice any gas savings.

Get yourself a nice piece of cardboard, remove the carb and lay it out. Cut the cardboard so it clears any obstructions on the manifold and carb linkage. Cut out the opening in the manifold and use it as a template on a nice piece of aluminum. Pretty simple and depending on how good you are can look very nice. Just sandwiched it between two carb gaskets.

I made one years ago for my BOSS 302 to keep the heat of the manifold from overheating the fuel in the fuel bowls. Worked great, looked good and was pretty inexpensive... unless you account for your time!!!

It is a heat shield designed I believe for the 1970-71 LT-1 with a Holley carb. I tried one from Holley (duplicate of GM design) on my 1967 but it didn't clear the intake runners. I used a 3/8" phenolic spacer instead.

Here is an aftermarket version for a spread-bore.
