Well, I took a look at a 76 today. It was actually one I looked at 2 weeks ago. Guy was asking 12k, got him to 10,500. Its in pretty good shap. 76k miles I think.
Consider yourself lucky. I only wish I was a member of the forum before I got my vette. I could have saved myself alot of money in the beginning. The knowledge you learn here will help tremendously once you do finally get one.
So Ive been going back and forth with a guy on his 74 vette for 2 weeks. I was supposed to buy it this weekend. I called tonight to make sure we are good for meetintg Saturday, and now he is saying he doesnt want to sell it again.
THIS IS 3 TIMES NOW.
I feel like a tool for being a member of a Corevette forum and I dont yet own one.
I hate people.
Sorry to hear the deal keeps falling thru. Rick seems like a down to earth guy. Not sure why he keeps wavering on the deal. You never know.
A true bung hole is the wooden hole/plug that is on the side of a wooden barrel. As for the car, forget him! There are so many Vettes out there for sale.....start shopping for another. There is almost every color, every year out there if you are patient. He is proably trying to work you for more money as you keep calling back. I would tell him, "you have my number call me if you change your mind" and don't call back. If he wants to sell he will call back and meet your number. I was selling a house by owner once and had a car salesman wanting to buy it. He sits down with me like a car deal working the numbers and of course just kept low balling. I told him I'll take your number and my chances. I caught him driving by at least twice looking at the house so I know he wanted it. Then the best satisfaction.......he drove by as I was pulling the sign out of the ground! The bottom line is if you aren't in a hurry you hold most of the cards.
Any time a sale begins to stumble and himming and hawing begins, GET OUT, and move on. You have the money. They have the car, but not the only car, and they can not eat it. If they were proposing the sale it was only because they NEED the money. Makes no difference why, but they need the money.. Too many times we get caught up in this garbage and strung along while they go fishing for more. Besides their are many more vettes for sale.
I had this same problem with a 69 BB I bought last summer. We had a deal and agreed on a price and when I went to do the title transfer the guy said he wanted to try and get more money buy listing it again in the local newspaper. So I thought two can play this game. I told him if I left without the car that evening my offer would be $1000 less when he came to his senses. Bottom line I bought the car 2 weeks later for $1500 Less than our original agreed price.
