Default Drop Base Air Cleaner

Looking for a bigger air cleaner. The one on it is not stock, but it has a small cleaner on it. Where can I find a drop base that will fit over an Edelbrock 600 CFM carb? Any ideas?

I bought an Edelbrock drop base through Napa out of their performance book, took a day to get it.

Why not use the Edelbrock unit? It clears the electric choke.

Where did you get it? I've looked for it and can't find it. Did you get a whole unit and just put the top aside or what? Thanks for the help.

I guess I'm so used to having to search around on the internet and through Corvette magazines that I have forgotten the concept of just going to the local Auto Parts store. Thanks for the help guys.

I got mine at Advance Auto. I used the Edlebrock and it works great with the 3" K&N element.

Brent,
Those covers are available from Paragon for $65.00 each. Then you get out the polishing compound and a buffer. Mine are not chromed.

But for a C3 you will run into PVC/crankcase vent and oil fill issues. These have been addressed in the past and may be available from the archives. It can be done.

Paul67, can you give me a part number on the unit you have? Was it a non-signature series, or did you get the signature series and use a different top?

I also have an Edelbrock Carb. (Thunder Series 650 cfm) and am having issues with finding a drop base that will fit!

Does anyone know of a Manufacturer and part # for the base only. I need a 14" diameter and 5 1/8" neck. Not really looking to by a complete setup because I have the K&N X-Stream top and 3" filter that I want to use.

Thanks

Paul, what intake manifold are you running there? I'm looking at doing a different intake than this single plane that the previous owner installed on our car, but I keep seeing that so many of the intake manifolds won't clear under the stock Corvette hood. I'm assuming that's due to running the stock air cleaner, which I'm already considering changing to a drop base cleaner...

I have an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake manifold, Edelbrock 1406 600cfm carb, and an Edelbrock 14'' x 3'' aircleaner with dropbase....it clears my electric choke fine and HEI distributor, and the hood closes with about .25'' to spare. I also have a .25'' heat gasket under the carb.

Paul,
What model Edelbrock Air Cleaner? You have a similar setup to what I am going to be running and yours works good.

Fubba and 82MDVette,
That is the Signature Series #1221. I discarded the Edelbrock top and used the original GM/Holley unit.

Sprzout,
That is a GM #3890490 intake used in 1966 and 1967 327/350hp Corvettes. I can't see that it would work on a C3. I would look for its successor: a 1970 or so LT-1 intake. But remember the LT-1 did have a raised hood design.

With the Edelbrock and a 3/8" phenolic spacer (for heat soak reasons) it sits higher than my original Holley. With a small block hood I had to go with a 2" air filter rather than the normal 3". When I had my car painted last winter I had a 427/stinger hood installed and now I'm back to a 3".
