Default Repair Manuals

Can anyone tell me if the Chilton's or Haynes repair manuals for '82 Vettes cover heating & A/C system servicing? I need a manual that shows this info. I bought a so called Shop Manual and I gotta say it sucks! The one I bought is in the link below. It doesn't have much in the way of step by step photos. It assumes you know the name of every single component on your 'vette and doesn't show you a picture of that component (most of the time).

Chiltons has a section on heater/heater core removal and install(68-8- w/ and w/o ac) Also blower motor R&R for vehicles 73-82.

Air cond in chiltons looks pretty general. A/C safety precautions, general servicing procedures, system inspection, discharging, evacuating and charging. Nothing 82 specific

Haynes has air cond system check and maint section. a/c system accumulator - removal and install section a/c compressor removal and install.....air cond condenser rem/install a/c and htr control assembly remov/install Heater core replacement...blower unit r/i....

Looks like haynes has more pic's and a bit more info than the chiltons on air cond/heating. Hope this helps.

p.s. I bought all three just for this reason

Get one of every book you can find. Each one will be a little different, with better or worse coverage and explanations of certain jobs. I always read all of my manuals before starting any job and get an overall veiw. Don't give up on the 68-82 Shop Manual, as you get more experience it will get better. Yes, it's for mechanics. Do get an Assembly Manual. It has exploded pictures of the car. It is quite confusing too, and assumes experience on the assembly line (which is what it was made for) but it is a good reference as well. Some things, like the A/C, will be better dealt with in a specific A/C book, using your Corvette books (and Forum help) for the Corvette-specific details.
Acually, I can't say what the manuals cover for HVAC, because I removed my A/C and have no problem with cockpit heat (except in summer) so I've never looked.

Buy the year-specific GM manuals for your car. Don't mess around with the generic manuals.

Go to HELM INC. and buy the set for your year. You will spend over $100.00 but it will be the best money you ever spent on your car.

Only if you're in a desparate hurry or don't care about your money. Get on eBay, spend $20 for the set used, and spend the other $80 on parts.
