How many 1981 4-speed cars were produced? My dads got one for sale and Im thinking about buying it.He bought it in 86 and its been rotting in the driveway for years. How can I tell what production # it is and what were some of the last production # or dates to come from SL.The paint is single stage so it had to come from SL.And last did all 81 cars come with AC,if so is it possible to remove it with stock parts that would look stock in an 81.The 80-82 cars have always been my favorites next to a 67 Coupe .My first Corvette was an 80 L-82 that I sold to buy my current 84.Thanks.I was told that the T-Top carrier option was a dealer option,is this true?Has anyone ever seen an NOS setup for this for sale? Thanks,Jeff.
according to the corvette black book, 5757 were made with 4-speed. the production numbers that came from st. louis were the last 8 digits BS400001 thru BS431611, the last one built there was completed on Aug 1, 1981. B5100001 thru B5108995 came from Bowling green..
There were 40,606 1981's built
5757 had 4 speeds
vehicle 1G1AY8764BS400001-1G1AY8764BS431611 (St Louis)
1g1AY8764B5100001-1AG1AY8764B5108995 (Bowling Green)
I didn't see a listing for a/c so I assume it was standard.
I hope this answered some of the Q's.
Not enough! In 80-81, less than 15% of the total output had 4-speeds. An '81 4-speed was my target car to buy and the closest 4-speed I found was an '80 at a dealer that just wasn't quite right.
Don't let that one get away. It has history and you know all the problems w/it. I bet your dad will get a kick out of helping you fix it up and keeping it in the family. BUY IT. If you don't it will be one of those I could a, would a, should a things.

Not exactly.Without getting into it,ive got 4 brothers and dads never been close to any of us.In the past I offered to restore the car for him but he wouldnt have any of it.When mom first asked if I wanted the car I said it wouldnt seem right for me to straighten out the car and drive it,but this car has sat in the same spot for years and turned to sh*t.I love these cars with a passion and too see one rot right in front of me,I think Im going to buy it.Now I thought about buying it,restore it and give it back but Ive got a 64 Nova that I will have to sell to buy this car,the Nova was never for sale but these 80-82 have the look. The only problem would cause me to pass is any rust in the windshield frame, floor pans.My plans if I do get it,a total frame off resto, yellow with tan interior, cloth seats.
If you havent been close to your dad, I wouldnt give it back after all the money it will take to fix it. Id buy it, restore it, and honk the horn every time I passed by his house.
