Default Frame off

Can someone please tell me the approximate weight of the 1971 corvette body, when being lifted off the frame, and is the harness straps around the body the only choice.
Please give me any hints that would help me do this.
It is the first time!!!!
Thanks

the search on frame-off will most likely get it. I remember reading it in one of them. there are a lot of post too. also a google search will get you a frame off checklist. if i have it i will email. i thought the weight was closer to 1000lbs though but that could be a figment of my poor memory.

yes you can make a different kind of strap. if you have a lift you can make a piece to fit the arms with a hook, i call it an L. look at the hook on the strap usedsomeyhing like that. by doing it this way no straps will touch the paint. that is how i did mine .
yes it is worth all the work-just glad im not doing it again.

you have any friends? Like 6-8 guys? 4 per side works well...that's how I lifted the body on mine...had 7 guys, 3 per side and one pushed the chassis out. Worked great.

With everything removed ... headlight assemblies, radiator support, bumpers, interior, doors, Ttops ... about 500 pounds.

If you leave stuff like headlight assemblies in the nose, be sure
to add something like a ratcheting tiedown from the top of the
windshield frame to the headlight opennings. Even if stripped clean,
I would still recommend one.

My rocker channels were rotted - so I couldn't use the standard
lifting straps that hook to the channels. I had to use 2" nylon
tie-downs to cradle the body and lifted on those. It is possible
to take one and thread it between the rear of the body and the frame.
In front, I wrapped one around each fender to lift. I used a cable
puller to lift each corner about 6" at a time then secure with the
ratchet. Using this method I lifted it by myself for about $30.
2" angle iron was bolted to the overhead floor joists to hang from.

Here she is after I split the front clip off. You can see how
I tied a loop in each strap ... to pull up on toward the angle iron.

If your rocker channels are similar to these, please do not try to lift the body by hooking to them. These just fell off by hand.

... to clarify the picture, the strap in the rear goes through the 2 rear wheel wells.

If you use the straps under the rocker channels, I would add a small strap to the front end and rear end for stability. I've found that just using the channel mounts makes the body awful tippy. This is especially true if you don't have a bunch of helpers to steady the front and rear as you lift.
