1978 Pace Car Inspection Sheets
Each assembly line had an inspection sheet. Once assembly was completed...the inspector would inspect...hack up the inspection sheet and than the unit returned to repair for fixing. The fixers would have their own unique punch as portrayed by Eagles inspection sheets. Once they fixed the inspectors notations...they punched the inspection sheet.
This went on for ad finum...or whatever that word is. The inspector would note whether the item was loose, or not operating and the repairman would fix and punch.
Each inspection sheet was stamped with the VIN number to correspond with the particular model VIN. They also circled the RPO that had been installed to communicate what had been found as they inspected the VIN in front of them.
Of particular interest is two sheets...PAINT and PIT. Paint is the obvious one but I'm curious how many of you reading this post know what the PIT was? The paint inspection sheets noted where paint flaws or body repairs were needed. Once corrected...it got the body man's punch.
The punches were quite unique and each assembly line got a unique punch. This is illustrated on the Eagle's set of inspection sheets. I couldn't make out the exact punch due to the limitations of reproduction but essentially they looked like the spade of hearts, clubs, etc and numerous other notables.
