Default missing VIN tag issue resolved...YEEHAA!

Some of you might remember the thread about my missing vin tag....well its finally was resolved today... after laying under my '71 for 2 hours with a wire brush and a mirror, i finally found the VIN numbers (most of them anyway) on the frame ... scheduled 3 appointments with the Highway Patrol inspector (those that remember will recall how hard the guy was to get along with) first time I drove 30 miles with the car on the trailer in the snow no less, only to flood out and was unable to get it off the trailer...second time had to cancel due to a death in the family.... FINALLY, today rolled that sucker in the shop, a nice female inspector (the horse's rear inspector happened to be off on an extended sick leave) crawled under the car, let me show her exactly how to hold the light and mirror to see the numbers and bingo, signed the form to reissue the tag and sent me on my way! IT WAS A GREAT DAY!!!!! Thanks to all of you who offered moral support during this ordeal!

Wow - nice ... first time I've actually heard of the frame
numbers being used to confirm VIN for registration purposes.
Further, first time I've heard of soemone actually reading them
without pulling the body off.
Good job

on a 71 by the number 4 body mount on the passenger side, also between the number 2 and 3 body about where the door stiker would be. I can take pics if anyone needs, my body is still off

I had to take a 4" mirror, reach as far back above the frame rail as you can with the mirror on the top outside edge behind the driver rear wheel, then after removing the muffler on that side, hold a flashlight on the top rear side of the frame rail pointed forward at just the right angle with my head sticking up between the gas tank and the rear crossmember, then I could see the numbers. Everything had to be just the right angle. All this after taking a little wire brush and cleaning that area for 20-30 minutes. what a pain, but doable. If anybody wants a pic of just exactly how I did it, let me know.
