Default Steering Wheel

I'm thinking about getting a new steering wheel for my 71...one that doesn't hurt your hands after a little bit of cruising. Maybe a little bit smaller diameter. What are you guys using?

Put the Grant black leather one on my Corvette a long time ago. It has polished slotted spokes & a shallower dish which moves it closer to the dash. Nice, direct bolt on about 13 1/2".

I don't have a photo, but I replaced the stick steering wheel with an after-market one from Mid America. It's smaller and thicker with nice leather cover around the entire circumference. It's a three spoke design of matte aluminum. I like it very much. It's very comfortable in my hands. The stock wheel was too large and skinny.

Here's a pick of mine...also a 71' I got it off ebay. About $90.00. It is 14" instead of the original 15. It makes it easier to get into and out of the car for me (6'3" 260lbs.)

2 weeks ago I went with a Grant wheel identical to fjetb's above. Make sure if you need to get ahub adapter you don't run into any issues. Momo makes a good adapter. The grants are direct bolt on's and some of their wheels you pay $70.00 EXTRA for the Grant horn button. I elected to keep my cross flags button. The wood wheel really adds a "rich" touch to the interior...

To keep your tele function (if you have it) you have to have a Corvette wheel or one made to interchange it. Just so you know.

I have a Duntov wheel that is the same diameter as the later C3s. I like it much better than the stocker. Somebody showed a photo of one about a week ago.

Can you tell more about your teak wheel? Teak wheels were optional on C2's and there are now two sources of C2 repro teak wheels. One of the sources advertises that they have the original C2 teak wheel tooling. Both sources will make teak wheels for early C3's. I'd really like to have one, they are beautiful, but they cost about $550 to $650.

Do you have a C2 style teak wheel on a C3? If so, do you know who made it? Thanks

..........................

Although $550 to $650 seems expensive for a teak wheel, I was at the Los Angeles Auto Show three years ago and a manufacturer of wood wheels had an exhibit. I discussed the Corvette teak wheels with him. He was familiar with the wheels. He said his minimum cost for a wood wheel, for any car, would be $1500!

I keep thinking about this one:

But I haven't talked myself into it yet. It's not a bad price though.
