Got these in the mail today, seller stated that they looked new on the inside, didn't even mention the cracked edge, photo's didn't show the damaged edge either! I am really po is this crack a big problem? It is the driver side which faces forward so I bet I will be able to see the damaged edge when they are on too. If you want to see the original auction here is the item #: 8032542230
Best pic is a few threads below.

It may leak there along that crack, I am sure they have that lip there for a reason. I would send them back, but I guess it just depends how much you paid for them.
Write the seller a letter expressing your concerns and let him know that the photos were misleading, and tell him that you'd rather not have to leave him bad feedback, that you wish to deal with this person to person. If he doesn't respond to your e-mails, you can get his phone number through e-bay. I've done it before, e-bay will e-mail you his phone number if you recently had a transaction with him.
Just got an email from the seller looks like he didn't see the damage when he listed or sent the item...... Hopefully I can get the $ back without an issue.

Functionaly I doubt you will know the difference BUT if that chipped part was facing the front, they need to go back for sure. If the chipped area faces the rear when they are installed, I doubt you will ever even see it. Either way, the seller has perfect feedback and I doubt he wants to change that over this little issue.
FYI - That is close to half what they sell for in NOS condition in the GM boxes.
Not really unexpected for Ebay. I't like gambling. You bid on items and occassionally you get something that's really a great buy. Quite often, you just get junk. When you recieve a Ebay item that you "won" you often discover that you've got a piece of junk. Then go back and look at a picture of the item in the original description. As originally pictured on Ebay, the item you purchased looks nice. You may see a slight discrepancy or blemish in the Ebay bid photo. When you recieve the item, the "slight discrepancy" or "blemish" stands out in the cold hard light of reality as a major flaw. Of course, if the slight discrepancy can be seen on the photo, the Ebay seller will get very narky about refunding your money.
I've long since decided to buy from the Corvette surplier houses, especially those that will sell used parts. They are much more reputable and will accept a returned part. Also, check out the NCRS Driveline magazine. I think that the NCRS people are more reasonable to deal with when it comes to buying/selling parts. I've gotten some really reasonable prices from NCRS people, and I would tend to sell some of my good stuff to them at a low price just as a return favor. (Although NCRS people can be good to deal with, understand that you can easily get flammed on the NCRS tech chat room!!!!) But anyhow, if you need parts for your C3, you do have to check out Ebay,...but just be very cautions.
I would contact the seller and notify him that you are returning them and expecting to have your money refunded. If he doesn't want to co-operate then tell him that you are going to file a complaint with Ebay and with Paypal if that's how you paid him for them. I had the same thing happen to me 2 yrs. ago. I bought a set of LT-1/L82 style aluminum valve covers from a guy in Arizona. They looked brand new in the photo and I paid $100.00 for them plus $15.00 for shipping. When I received them they were oxidized and had wrench nicks in the fins and were full of greasy gunk on the inside. naturally I wasn't too happy about being scammed and contacted the seller. He tells me that the photo in the auction isn't the actual covers and that the photo is for representation purposes only because he doesn't even own a digital camera. Nowhere in his auction did it state this and he refused to take them back or re-imburse me any money and tells me to get real and get over it, what do I expect for 25 year old covers. So I called Paypal and filed a complaint with them and Ebay both, but nothing ever became of it and I was stuck with them. So I waited until the 59th day, 23rd hour and left him a negative so that buy the time he read his feedback it would be too late to leave me any back. I have since cleaned them up with Mothers Aluminum wheel cleaner and have them on the car. They don't look too bad after hours and hours of polishing, and a lesson learned.

I "sniped" 2 sets of these VC in the last 2 months. One set was painted so no one bid (under $100shipped to me) and the other set was listed as a set of Corvette VC instead of the Z/28 302 "DZ NOS" catch phrases so I picked them up for under $120 shipped to me. You need to wait and be ready to JUMP. I would not be happy with that set of VC for the money you paid for them.
Had the same thing happen to me very recently.......seller advertised the valve covers as having no cracks.....when I got them, there was a crack in one of the covers.....
When I complained, the seller responded to my e-mail straight away and offered a full refund of the purchase + double my freight costs.
So, I suggest you contact the seller and organize a return.....
2nd hand parts are always risky....and I always keep in mind that there's a reason why they are 2nd hand.....I bought a set of valve covers at a swap meet that looked great on inspection, but when I put them on the PCV hole was bored .02" larger, enough to make a sloppy fit and vacuum leak....and I can't return them 'cause I don't know who the seller is......
At least with Ebay there's an opportunity to return the item (or get your vengence by leaving negative feedback... )
