I'm having a new windshield installed today. Besides inspecting the bird cage should I be looking for anything else? take out the hose, and look for water leaks?
I know that I will be taking it out for a ride to lsiten for wind noise.
It would be a surprise if there is no rust on the windshield frame. If there is I would take the time to treat or repair it properly before installing the new glass. You may have to have the installer come back on another day after you have painted the frame. After installation, make sure the mouldings fit properly and definetly check for water leaks.

there has to be a little rust in there hopefully very little.
tell us what you find
When they changed mine. The PPG guy's grinded everything out and used sealer to protect the metal. I was actually surprised that there less rust than I thought by the way the trim was pushing out. Most windshield shops are prepared for these kind of issues.

If you use Por-15, then you will need to use their self etching primer as a top coat. Otherwise the WS sealant may not stick. Grinding to the metal would work, but make sure all the grind areas are covered by sealant.
