I believe you need to insert the key in the lock, twist and pull by hand and the thing sort of separates into 2 pieces, the chrome faceplate that you see, and the white-metal lock cylinder. Now you can access that skinny nut that holds it in place. If you need a replacement, I got one at Zip for a fair price.
If you will provide your email address I can email you an article on glove box removal. It details how to uninstall your lock. By doing so you can simply reverse the procedure to reinstall which will also allow you to tighten it up.

There is a small hole on the side of the lock, a thin punch or something small needs to be inserted in the hole then it will release
I almost forgot, The key needs to be in the lock while you're doing this.
