well, i picked up this 71 coupe last month and it's going to need all of the paint removed. i am also planning a color change. the last 2 vettes i painted were stripped chemically in my driveway. does anybody have some good info on media blasting? i was thinking of picking up one of blasting kits sold at the local supply store. i don't feel like dealing with chemical burns or trying to remove the filler that gets soft from the stripper. i have been playing with the razor around the stress cracks. i am planning to scrap the front wrap in favor of the eckler's tilt, so, atleast i will eliminate half of the stripping process. if you have some experience, please let me know
Stripped 2 vettes with razors and sandpaper. The earlier C3's had a primer under the paint that was easy to take off with a razor. My 78 was a lot harder and used lots of sandpaper. When I am going to strip a car again I will go the plastic or soda media route. Have seen the soda type material at work and does a great job of taking the paint off and no damage to the panels. Lot less time and for the $400 to strip it with soda seems like a good trade off to me, houstonvett
I stripped mine last fall with stripper (Kleen Strip for fiberglass). Mine had like 10 coats of paint. I just put it on and let sit for about 2 hrs, stripped off with a razor blade. Then, one more application (didn't let sit as long) and was down to the SMC. The Spray Strip other recommend didn't work very well, but the Kleen Strip did. It took some time, but I didn't think it was all that bad of a job and it didn't damage the body. I had a guy that soda stripps vehicles tell me that some Vettes are real "iffy" and best to stick with chemical. Mostly depends on how much paint and how hard to strip. FWIW
