Getting ready to paint my 78. Black is original color. Have seen bright work around T-top, windshield, and rear window both painted and just polished alum/stainless. Should it be painted or not?
Confused as can't fine any supporting documentation on this.
Thanks, Don

My 78 is all original yet. Rear window trim is bright stainless. T-top fiberglass tops trim is bright stainless. GM glass t-tops trim is black. Pretty sure that around the windshield is flat black.

A lot of people would rub off the black paint on the t-top trim or it would just wear off by itself leaving the chrome finish. Same with the windshield and rear window frame.
Anyway, I am fairly certain originally they all matched - semi-flat acrylic lacquer black paint on both frames and t-top trim.
REAR WINDOW trim:
78: black and polished stainless(two-tone).Half against paint is polished, against glass is painted black. From about VIN 5000 to 11000 may be ALL polished stainless. Pace Car is all painted black.
79: all painted black.
FRONT WINDSHIELD trim:
Both 78 and 79: painted black.

We just had a thread on this within the last month...it changed toward the Pace Car production and by 79...had become totally black.
My 78 with a Nov 77 build date is stainless steel on the rear, t-tops the same while front windshield is flat satin black. Later the rear trim became both stainless and black until finally it was all black...after May 78.
