Rusted Pipe
the overlapping pipe. You only need to make the slit from the
edge of the overlap to just past the area that the clamp was on.
Once you get that far, often the pipes can be wiggled and
twisted enough to come apart. Going back together could be
welded or (that far away from engine) hi temp RTV to seal it
before throwing the clamp back on.
Worst case is the overlapping end gets buggered up and you have a new short piece of pipe welded onto the end.
Best case is you replace with dual exhaust or sidepipes.

Do you have an automatic (forget from pics) ? If so, consider
dropping the entire system with the tranny crossmember.
Then, you can mess around with it off of the car .. much easier
and what I did.
Are you replacing the Y pipe or mufflers? If not, pull the whole thing at the cat converter, that's what I have done. Otherwise, you'll probably have to cut either the outside and wreck the muffler or cut the Y off flush at the muffler and cut and bend out the remaining piece from inside the muffler inlet. Either way, I'd also pull the whole thing at least at the converter and work on it off the car.Mike
