1980 rocker moldings
I have a simple question, I hope.! My 80 vett is ready for paint, the last owner painted some exterior parts black the car color is red. The one part that I am not sure about is the color of rocker molding's, Do they get painted the same as the car or are they painted black.
You guys have been a great help, Keep up the good work
Thank's Joe

Hi, On my '80 the rocker mouldings were/are black except for a portion that has no paint on them. As far as I know thats the way they are supposed to be, I am the second owner, and judging by the lack of anything ever done to the car by the previous owner I'd say thats the way it rolled out of the plant,,,Hope this helps,,,

I've wondered about black Corvette's from 80 - 82.... Did factory original black cars have aluminum colored or black rocker covers. Mine has the aluminum (natural) color with a 1 inch wide black stripe. So what is correct for black cars of this era?

Joe,
if originality isn't your bag, you could consider what I did. Figuring that paint will just chip & need doing again I was considering getting them powdercoated, so stripped them right back. There's a layer of paint (flat black) but under that is a coat of clear anodising. I stripped the lot off (wet-or-dry, it took days to do getting into the little corners, so I'd highly recommend chemical stripping) & then got them anodised in black. They look great & it's hard wearing stuff, no chips yet (5 years?).
