I was amazed at how well engine degreaser and a brush cleaned my seat rails. After hosing well and drying, wipe them down with lacquer thinner, prime and paint. Then apply lube, I'm using Pink Flamingo.

They don't disassemble very easily. Best bet is to follow the advise of others and clean them with degreaser and a brush. There was a thead on this awhile ago and someone suggested having them dipped in acid... sort of like dipping a frame. I used a wire brush as best I could and called it a day.

I cleaned mine with the wire wheel on my bench grinder without taking them apart, then hit them with a ligth coat of clear polyeurothane, the look brand new still;
