I am away from all my resources at home to look up and see how much my 69 convert weighs...can somebody tell me? It is a small block car also. I need a SUV and considering the Lexus RX330 right now as I am traveling on business and came across a good deal but don't know the true vette weight if I ever needed to tow it which at most would be once a year if ever. I need to make a decision rather quickly before this guy just turns the RX330 in for what the dealer will give him on it on his new truck. I like the big truck, but don't think I need really that big of a truck.
Don't know the weight, but for towing purposes, a C3 with trailer would weigh in the 4,500 - 5,000 lb neighborhood. So get a vehicle that will handle 6,000 and you should be okay (but that will rule out most of the luxo SUVs as they will usualy only tow about 3,000 lbs).
Edit: Per the Lexus website, the RX 330 will tow 3,500 if equiped with the optional tow package. That would maybe be enough to flat tow the Vette since it would weigh somewhere between 3,000 and 3,500 but it is not enough to allow for the trailer.
I tow with my 1990 G-20 ,350 motor, 700r4, 249,600 miles with no problems. = loaded correctly, tied down good ,checked at every fuel stop, driven sanely = no problems to date.
thanks all for your responses...I decided to pass on the deal as the guy has to turn it in on Monday for another car and was willing to give it to me for $1,000 over what the dealer was going to give him for it. I checked the Lexus forum and there was an interesting discussion about how much you can tow with this vehicle....not much as they said it has a tendency to want to jacknife under breaking due to it being so light when towing anything over 3,000lbs. Also they said the breaks really suck for towing....last thing I want to see it my Lexus and Vette all mangled on the road because I was an idiot and exceeded the towing limits. Well...back to looking for a good used Harely Davidson F-150 edition for a second vehicle as I researched all other smaller SUV's and none are acceptable for towing...but then again I really don't ever see myself towing the vette unless $hit happens. Getting rid of my sedan as I need a truck/suv to compliment the vette.
