There is a C3 where I run autocross at and it is VERY competitive. He is running slicks on 17's and easily keeps up with the Miatas and S2000s. I run stock class and I have been beating 350Z and other cars all season. Our cars a decent on long, non-technical courses.
Think you are right...but what the heck...at 63,must do it a few times more...this pic is 1979..running as novice..junked the louvers first thing...then cut front coils to drop nose..ran shaved tires in stock class...note spoiler..that was a sheetmetal one I experimented with...but did not survive driveway...
I'm going to enter an autocross event Feb 19..have not done this since 1984....I''ll run the 78 against Miatas etc....probably get my *** kicked...with their computer controlled braking, active handling......etc..
But guess what..I'll have it hung out there......
I might come out and watch...don't think mine will be out of the shop by then...
This Sunday, huh? Much as I'd like to come out, I've got some parts to repair on the Vette before I can think about coming down there. The #$*^_ motor mounts still have to be installed, and we still have to get the power steering control Valve fixed. If we can get the control valve installed and the motor mounts replaced on Saturday, we can move the Vette and get the Jag out of the garage.
If I don't make it down, though, I'll have to wish you luck..
Well I know there's an autocross coming up in March, it's very doubtful I can come this Sunday. I'd like to replace the rear shocks before I go putting a lot of pressure on the whole car. Least those GR-2s are cheap, don't have the funds yet, though. I'm working OT all this week, 10 hour days. Should help me save up some more to pay for some stuff.

My girlfriend and I are going to come watch around noon or so, when we get back from Orange County. Hope to see you guys there! We'll be driving her lil Ford Focus since my vette is running lean and I won't have my parts to fix it till monday.
Question. Friend of mine suggested try some drifting events. His reasoning was our cars are big and some of these small courses are great for little cars/4cly6cly. He said get used to sliding the car that will aid a good deal in road courses. Any thougts on that?

Drifting a Vette would be fun, but expensive...You basically go through 1 set of tires, maybe 2, for each event. I watched a Ford Focus (converted to RWD for drifting) and several Mustangs drift out at Barrett-Jackson this year, and they kept changing the tires out every time they'd go out. Part of it, they said, was due to temperature changes of the asphalt, so that they could get a better grip (or lack thereof) for the drifting that they were doing.
Also, the only drifting that I know of in SoCal is done up at Irwindale, which for a good many of us is quite a drive.
If San Diego weren't so against racing (closure of El Cajon Speedway, the heavy fines/laws against street racing, and only 1/8th mi. tracks to drag race on), I would think that the drifting scene would really take off.
I'm glad they've got pretty nasty laws against street racing, personally. It's stupid to race where there's a high potential of fatalities and injuries. I do wish they'd make more efforts to make San Diego more race friendly, though. We need some tracks and strips to keep people from being idiots on the roads.
I always tell people to take it to the track if they want to seriously race, and if someone wants to race me I tell them to meet me at a track. Usually they don't end up showing.

The one we are running is almost a mile in length...any sliding will scub time off..you are right that is tough to horse these vettes around on a tight small course...
