68 L89 Barn Find
As a curiosity the L89 is not shown as an option for 68. Did I miss something?
Still looks like a cool car tho. A friend bought an L 36 new and i used to keep it tuned for him. Fun car to drive. His had no PS or PB 4 spd. All motor. More torque than the tires of that era could handle. After driving my SB his was a real horse.
Enjoy!

The L89 is an aluminum head option that could be ordered when engine option L-71 was ordered. L89 is NOT an engine option! If this option was ordered, it would appear as L-71/L89 when ordered.

Buy a book, like Corvette Black Book 1953-2006 or the NCRs Pocket Spec Guides.
Don't trust the Internet, guys like you and me post the stuff.

That would make the car even more rare wouldn't it?
ya, sumpin look kinda fishy about that internet data:
RPO L71 427-cid 435-hp V-8 ($437.10)
RPO L81 427-cid 435-hp V-8 ($437.10)
What is an L81 in 1968??
Anyway, as stated above, the tripower 435 hp engine was L-71, and the aluminum head option for the L-71 engine was L-89. Super duper rare in 67, and rare in 68.

I have a 68 427/ 435 Tri Power (L-71) mine also came from the Warren, MI GM Tech Center. I have documentation on this and the car was running and looked pretty decent when I got it. Long story short, I now have it about 50% back together after a total "nut and bolt" restoration. You are in for much more than paint from what I can see, these old cars pretty much require a total restoration. Hopefully the Tank Sticker is still on the gas tank? I would start there, DOCUMENTATION is everything on these cars, if you have no documentation that should keep you from spending tons on any restoration. What ever you plan on spending time and money wise on this car, double both time and costs and you will still be low, beleive me! It's still fun though!
Good Luck,

You also dont list and RPO for the base 300 horse 327
Nice find, there will always be differences of what a car is worth. You clearly baught the car for the right reasons. Remember there were guys standing in line to pay too much. If you waited you would be most likely viewing the car at a show rather than your garage. Today there are more and people who wnat old corvettes. More than there are cars. Many want to drive them. You DID make a good investment. Maybe even fun and profit. I know a guy who spent $80,00.00 on a dune buggy
because he liked it. Will it hold it's value, NO.

The thing about BB corvettes is that if you paid to much, just wait a little bit and the market will catch up. I am sure 20 years from now he will tell all his friends about the BB 68 that he "stole" for only 35K, and everybody will say "those were the days when they were affordable".
