Default What should I do??

Well, I suppose I should expect a bit of a biased response from this forum...but still

Here's my situation: I'm gonna have about $4,000 to throw around by the end of this summer. I'm trying to decide what to do with it...I could put all the money into my Stingray - new 3.55 posi and H/C/I good for high 12's/low 13's - which has pretty much been my plan all along. I was recently thinking, though, about perhaps just buying another car instead...my friend's dad has a huge (30 or so) collection of awesome classics and muscle cars, and I'm sure he'd cut me a good deal on one - I was thinking a nice 68-72 Nova would suit me well. Now, I really really like my Stingray and making it that fast would be awesome...but the idea of having a cheap Nova is damn appealing as well. What would you do, and why??

The Nova feeling will come and go...the Corvette will always give you the smile on the face. Invest in the vette OR

send you funds to me and I'll give you a detailed step by step (with photos) of the fun I'm having putting new stuff on my vette. You'll have a warm and fuzzy feeling for doing a good thing

Seriously, before you know it the Nova will start to suck funds away that you didn't plan on...spend it on a known thing, your car.

Wow, this is a tough decision...I talked to my friend and he'll ask his dad about it tonight - apparently he has 5 Novas, so I suppose parting with one wouldn't be tooo big a deal I think what I'm going to do is find out if he has anything suitable, and if he does, check it out, see if it's in good enough shape and if I really do enjoy driving it. If I do, I may well leave the major 'Vette mods until next year...'course, I need to wait until this flipping snow melts to take any test drives

I would not mod a chrome bumper too much.... nothing that cannot be returned to 'stock'

A Nova ??? Yes, a 496 fits in there.... ... if I had the space for another toy I'd go for it...

Meh, I'm never going to sell the car, so resale value isn't important to me. It's already modded enough that returning to stock would be a pain in the ****...it's got full exhaust (LT's, true duals, Dynomax mufflers), intake/carb, and ignition mods...

You already know about the issues with the Vette. Why buy new problems? Keep what you have and rod it. Keep your original parts for posterity.

If you have two classics your money us split between two cars. Meaning you'll have two average/cool cars, But if you only own one you can put all your eggs in one basket and own ONE bitchin car. One car, only have one set of problems.

Just saying I know how money is tight for a guy in college.

You have already said what you should do.

Why put it off and have it go much slower. I agree with the previous poster - if you go the nova route - you now have 2 cars to split the funds between.

Try to get a 340 'Cuda with your money, then have fun. Sell it for more when you're tired of it.

Nothing wrong with having several toys. I have a 69 Camaro as well as the 71 Vette, and yes it does divide the money and time but it provides a welcome break to have one that will run while the other is down. The downside is the loss of precious garage space.

Argh, good points made on both sides

My main idea is, though, that even if I do get the Nova, I'm not going to put any more money in it than I really have to until my Stingray is where I want it. The thing is, I wouldn't really feel safe parking my Stingray outside the apartment I'll be living in next year, just because it'll be in an open (albeit private) car park on a college campus...but I wouldn't mind keeping the Nova there - certainly a less flashy car than the 'Vette. Next year hopefully my friends and I will live in a house with a garage, so I could bring the Vette...but if I dumped my money into go-fast mods for the Stingray this summer, I'd be stuck mainly driving the family beater most of the year...

But how much money will it take for the Nova to be a reliable DD? If not much then go for it.

Keep the vette and buy the Nova. When you get bored working on one turn to the other.

If I had the space in my garage I'd get another toy....Nova, Chevelle, maybe a '66 Mustang .... in >5 years they'll be a lot more expensive .... well, with a standard Florida 2-car garage this is out of question.... not sure why they call this a 2-car garage.... cannot even fit two Beetles in there

When I said 'don't mod the chrome bumper too much' I was more thinking about cutting it up to fit 15" wide rims and slicks.... not exhaust or ignition mods....
