lost my tach today
well im driving into work when all of a sudden the tach starts screemming vibrating and pegs out at pointing to the bottom of teh tach, then the needel jumps free..... before i could get to the side of the road. anyway, i disconnected the cable at the distributor ( and i have the 90 degree bend attachment) and unscrew the cable. looks like ill need a new tacjh and cable now
before I converted over to electronic, I had a problem with tach cables and the 90 degree drive unit. I tried one tach cable from mail-order, then had a local shop make one that was the exact length as the original. Both were either noisy or the needle jumped.
I removed the 90... rotated the dist and could then attach the tach cable directly to the dist without the 90 degree adapter. Had to re-index the plug wires on the dist cap.
Though the chrome dist shield needed modding a little bit (vacuum advance transducer was now hitting the shield on the rearward side - so I notched it).

Mine worked fine untioll that day and while i still have all the shielding, I put in an HEI unit from D.U.I so the sheildinhg is on teh shelf now awaiting poilishing. Im probably just gonna fix mine, as i have no desire to convert to electroninc yet......
but you may end up with the solution ill use if this should happen again
