Default side pipes

what is the preferred side pipes for my vette, I have a 79 L82 and currently have side pipes, have no idea what they are, but would prefer to run pretty much straight pipes. Not sure if mine are a muffler type pipes. suggestions would be great.

Are the primary tubes coming all the way to the side or is it just the collector tube? I have Stahl headers and Spiral Baffle inserts keeping the noise down.

Default side pipes

Wow, beauty you have. I am not sure, I would have to take a pic, but mine do not look anything like yours, they have the appearance that they are cross threated from the headers. At the front of the side pipes, there are 4 pipes coming into a single side pipe. Not sure if this helps. I am new to this so excuse my ignorance on that topic, but I pick up quickly. If a picture will help, I can take a pic and post.

Sounds like Hookers to me. Do they look like these?

Without the heatshield? Are they 4" in diameter?

Default pipes

yes they look just like those without the wholed shields, I just measured and they appear to be 4" diameter. I honestly have not checked, but I am assuming there is not cat. converter, and these are directly flowing from the exaust man. Also I have checked the specs on the stock '79 350 ci and it says there is only 225 hp. Is that correct?

If you have an original L82 then the right hp output is 225hp, but like seen many times before, these 200hp monsters will wear out over time and someone posted once a dynosheet showing whopping 122hp RWHP numbers!!!

If you don't have mufflers in the side pipes I doubt there will be no cat converter either.

For some great sounding, yet not robbing many of the 225 wild horses, mufflers!
