Default LS7 comes to Australia

Apart from the couple of C6 Z06's which have arrived here, Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) are getting the LS7 to install in the top of the line HSV coupe (Monaro/GTO).
They originally built a 427 powered Monaro with a C5R derived motor but this was canned because the motor was not a "production" motor. Now they have a production motor they can use, the project is going ahead.

BTW, I get to put my greasy mitts on a real C6 Z06 tomorrow. It's appearing at the NCRS meet in Melbourne. No driving, just gerfingerpokin.

GTO sales are tanked... Did you read the editorial comment in Corvette Magazine this month? He is a fan of the GTO, but laid out 15 or more reasons why that money would be better spent on other cars.

....guess you'll have to come down here to get one... ....heard the complaint was they were dull.....but they sure stand out here on the street....seen a few being thrashed at the strip too.....

If they put the LS7 in it that'll rock, but I'm sure it would be a $100k + car....for that kind of money I'd rather put the LS7 in my Vette...

Hey James......don't forget to post some pics of the meet....especially those Melbourne hotties bending over looking at the Vettes....

sounds sweet

as for the GTO, yes it's being canned, but it was only going to run for 3 years anyway. There were talks of it sharing a platform with the new Camaro that Holden will help design, but it was scrapped.

Holden was going to share a new platform with Chev/Pontiac but that got canned as well. It was going to be a sedan and Coupe/Vert design. The current plan is for Holden to have their own platform which is unique.(sedan only) They will make LHD as well for the Arab and other markets they already supply.Have a look at Chevs in the Arab areas and they are all Holdens rebadged.
It's a shame because Chev and Pontiac could do with a rear wheel drive passenger platform to compete with Chrysler and Ford.
Again, a Beancounters Vs car people argument.

Standup,
I dropped in on the judging today and there are a couple of Kiwis visiting. I will pump them (for gossip) for you. OK, I will take my camera tomorrow but not sure how many hunneys will be there. Bugger, it is already tomorrow.Photos may take until Sunday night to post. Got a hot date Saturday night.

Hey Standup, what kind of car is it in the reflection? Something from downunder,, looks pretty neat. I think the complaint about the Goat here in the states was that it was too plain for the buyers to get interested in besides I've heard also that it was only gonna be a short run production for here. Peace,,, Moosie

By the numbers the american GTO is a tough car, but that doesn't always sell a lot of cars off the lot. I guess what got me was the shape of the car. The old GTO looked lithe and purposeful, the new GTO was kind of ponderous. I know it could do way more then the old GTO could, but it just wasn't the boss like the old one. They should have called it the monaro, introduced a whole new line, invorgorated the interest, and offered many different versions. Their should have been a stripped out track version, a touring version, an economy version, kind of like the old camaros and the new 350Z today.
Oh well, maybe they'll learn from their mistakes with the new camaro.

It's a HG Monaro, 1970 model and derived from the sedan body. The HK series in 1968 was the first of this body shape, then the HT in 1969. Engines ranged from a 161 straight six with a 3 sp column shift to 327/350 350hp straight out of a Vette backed with a 4sp saginaw. Racing options available included 36 gallon tank and tramp rods.
In 1971 the basic Holden shape changed to a bigger, more rounded HQ series.
Cheers!
