Can someone please help me with how to indentify if a 68-71 Vette is correct? I have found all of the codes for the block, heads, tranny, etc. but I'm trying figure out if there is a way to match these up with the car. This may be a dumb question, but I haven't been able to find any info. Is there an option tag (similar to the trim tag) that identifies which major options the car comes with or does one have to have a build sheet to confirm this??? I know the 72 could be identified with a letter in the VIN (K for base, etc.), but this doesn't seem to be the case with earlier C3's. Thanks for the help.
For 68-71 vettes there is no vin identifiers as far as engine or mechanical components. The only thing you can tell from the vin is Coupe or convertible.
The only way to determine original equipment is with original documentation. Build sheet , factory invoice, original bill of sale, all will support identifying original equipment. You can have all the right date coded parts and numbers but never know if they were part of the original equipment delivered from the factory unless you have the paper to prove it.
