Exterrior - "Face Lift" Photo Documentation
Starting this Thread to document the process of my '80 going through a complete strip, rebuild and paint at JB's Corvette Specialists in Carrollton, TX. Decided to do this after making my 7yr old a promise that we will work hard to win some car show trophys for him. Stock White just wasn't getting it done for us... Believe in keeping my promises..especially to my boy.
ONE WEEK at the shop... All external items removed as JB doesn't believe in tapeing off...his goal is for the finished product to look like an original paint work...reason I chose him!
Some minor body work found on extreme rear rear quarter panel...and a little on a front quarter panel... otherwise, the body is in really good shape.
New Hood Arrived and being prepped for fresh air breathing. Underside will also be finished and painted when done.

Man, those guys don't play around. It took me 1.5 months for mine to get stripped to that point. Of couse that was just me working on it here and there when I had time. I just dropped it off at the painter yesterday.

I agree... was definitely surprised when I received these photos.
Spent almost a year researching body/paint shops around the DFW area until I met John and his company (JB's Corvette Specialists). He was recommended by some of the forum members so I stopped by his old shop in Farmers Branch and was really impressed with his attitude and love of Corvettes...really great person...
He now has a new shop in Carrollton (a few blocks behind Corvettes of Dallas). Just installed a new state-of-the-art paint booth and has a great team also. In fact, I just expanded the work I'm having them do based on one of his Team members (Frank). Really like his helpful attitude and knowledge of the mechanicals of our cars...including engine mods...will be upgrading my intake to an RPM air-gap and Demon carb while the car is down. Also going to redo my dual exhaust with electric cutouts and a wide band air/fuel meter in the glove box.
Anyone looking for a solid shop in Dallas should take a look at them.
What type of rims do you have on that vette? I'm looking for something different and I'm just not ready to put Thrust IIs before exploring some different setups.

Thanks...
They are a set I picked up at Discount Tire when I first purchased the car. Believe they were called MB Wheels...Overdrive type. I'm switching to TT2s at the end of the body work.
Thanks, if you have any additional or higher quality prepaint pics, please send them to me. I found the rim online and I really like but I can't see them clear enough in your profile picture to judge how they look close up. Rick

Did you really need to strip it down all the way? I know a lot of guys do that but not sure it is always required if the existing paint and body is in good shape.

Yes... two reasons on this particular car... significant spider cracks in the paint and bad previous paint job (almost like the paint got wet before drying and left pits all over the front). Will also be nice to know that I have a clean job all the way down when done.

Thanks... We've probably passed each other at some point over the past 2 years. My 7 yr old and I would usually head down Preston on Friday and Saturday evenings. We'll have to get all of us together for Lunch or Dinner at Crusers sometime.
